friday morning>

well... if the monsoon isn't OFFICIALLY here, then it's very very close. heavy thundershowers yesterday afternoon and evening brought 1.75" (45mm) of rain, and thunderstorms overnight have given way to steady moderate rain just before sunsrise early this morning. the satellite pic shows the entire area socked in with clouds, as a potent upper-air disturbance interacts with increasing tropical moisture. when the monsoon first advances, it does so in surges, with temporary retreats. that seems to be the phase we are in. this means that over the next few days the moisture will retreat again for a day or so, but each time a new surge comes in, it will remain for a longer period, until eventually, a nearly saturated (80-100% humidity) tropical airmass will become entrenched. temperatures will be much cooler and more pleasant... but the trade-off is the higher humidity (early this morning it is only 16c/60f). an overnight rainfall report will be added here as soon as i hear from my weathergeek assistants down by the temple later this morning... i have a feeling we've had 1-2" overnight.>

*UPDATE** overnight rainfall as of 7am was 1.7" (43mm). total rainfall since yesterday at 4pm is now nearly 3.5" (78mm)!
