saturday evening>

full-on monsoon conditions have got a grip on us. visibility at the weathergeek office this evening is exactly zero... in thick fog. we've picked up 0.80" (2cm) of rain since late last night, for a total of 2.05" (5.2cm) since yesterday afternoon. the high temp this afternoon was 21c/69f at the top of mcleod ganj.

some remarkable data has been coming in today, derived from various computer guidance that models different levels of the atmosphere, and comes up with a forecast solution. there is general agreement that we are in for a very wet stretch of weather which will last for at least the next five days. tropical moisture will have an unrestricted flow into northern india, and will be lifted and condensed out in the form of occasional heavy rain as it runs up against the mountains. it is possible that we could pick up more than 8 inches of rain between now and wednesday night (that's 20+cm). so... the bottom line is this: take a breath and prepare for a bit of a deluge during the coming several days...
