tuesday evening>

we had a slight meteorological catastrophe today... monkeys went after the official rain gauge (located near the temple, just below chonor house in mcleod ganj), and managed to spill out an undetermined amount of the day's rainfall. having been out and about in the periodic light rain today, with a few bursts of moderate rain, i am estimating that we had somewhere in the neighborhood of 0.70" (1.8cm). if someone out there has a rain gauge, i'd love to know if this is somewhat close to reality. the heaviest rain occurred between 11am and 130pm, and again between 3 and 4pm.

the satellite pics today have been busy... lots of rain and thundershower action has been scattered from pakistan across northern india. the computer models are still indicating that this pattern will continue through thursday, with northwesterly flow aloft, combined with south-southeasterly flow of rich, moist tropical air at the surface, which will be lifted up against the mountains. that means periods of rain (and some rumbles of thunder) will be a pretty sure bet for the next 48 hours, with a continuing threat of heavy rain at times. changes are on the way for the end of the week, however. a drier pattern will dominate from friday into sunday, bringing us warmer temps, and a few hours of sunshine here and there...
