saturday morning>

we have mostly clear skies and 16C/61F before sunrise this morning.  i heard some thunder overnight, but there was no new rainfall to report this morning... we've only had 0.05" (1mm) in the past 24 hours.

a very interesting forecast for the next few days... the computer models are having a little trouble coming up with a solution, and there has been a lot of contradiction and "flip-flopping" between model runs (every 12 hours).  issue number one is the potential for some very heavy rainfall during the coming 24 hours.  although we're starting out with generally clear skies this morning... plenty of moisture is still in place, and there is a rather potent disturbance drifting through in the upper atmosphere.  that gives us the potential for a significant round of rain and thunderstorms later today and tonight.  issue number two is the continuing good chance of occasional showers and strong storms right through tuesday... the "convective" potential is high... that means temperatures aloft are cooling down considerably, in relation to temperatures at the surface, which is a good recipe for thunder and lightning and possible strong thunderstorm winds.  issue number three is the continuing indication of some dramatic DRYING towards the middle of next week.  i'm not sure if that will mark the END of the monsoon or not... but it will definitely be something to keep a close eye on, as more data becomes available...
