thursday evening (16sep)>

unless we can somehow get a shower in the next few hours, today will turn out to be the first totally DRY DAY since august 27th.  we've had a mix of sunshine, clouds and a few periods of fog throughout the day, with a high temp of 20.5C/69F in upper mcleod ganj.

the satellite photos late this afternoon are showing clouds and fog clinging to the mountains... from kashmir through HP and uttar anchal... but no organized showers or thunderstorms.  we may yet get a random shower this evening... but skies will quickly clear out around sunset.  expect the mainly dry weather to continue for another 24-36 hours.  there is enough lingering monsoon moisture to aid in the build-up of clouds and fog from mid-day through the afternoon hours... but not enough to contribute to significant rainfall.  that may change by late saturday, as a flow of moisture from the south and southeast combines with an approaching upper-level disturbance from the west.  humidity, clouds, fog, and rain chances will be on the increase once again... so it looks doubtful that we'll get our '5 days in a row' of dry weather to declare an official end to the monsoon...
