february doldrums... (pm.22.feb.11)>

clouds are quite thick early this evening.  we did get some sunshine through thin, high clouds this morning, which allowed the temp to max out at 55.8F (13.2C) around noon.  current satellite photos show a band of cloudiness right on top of us, but it looks like we could get at least some clearing later this evening, before yet another batch of clouds moves in overnight.

the weather pattern is going to be quite active for the next several days.  there will be a general area of low pressure aloft hanging just to our west, and it will eject several disturbances which will move through northern india between now and sunday.  this scenario is going to keep us in and out of the clouds (mostly in), and also in line for occasional periods of rain showers.  there is a major discrepancy between computer models this evening... one model shows only light precipitation between tomorrow and the weekend, but the other two models are hinting at the potential for some rather significant rainfall.  we should have a better picture of which model(s) are correct by 24 hours from now.  suffice it to say that the weather will be moving in a general "downhill" direction as we move through the rest of the week.

of course heavy snowfall is again in the forecast for the mountains and passes above 2300m (7500ft) or so... starting tomorrow.
