improvement... (pm.26.feb.11)>

this is turning out to be one of the coldest days of the entire winter season... as our high temp only reached 41.5F (5.3C) during the mid-afternoon.  we've had exactly 1.0cm (0.40") of melted/liquid precipitation during the past 24 hours... and that included about 1/2 to 1" of snow in mcleod ganj, and 2-3" of snow in parts of naddi and dharamkot this morning between about 8am and noon.  the snow melted quickly, but by all accounts, it is one of the latest accumulating snows in the immediate area of the past 10-15 years.  previous to today, the latest accumulating snowfall i remember, personally, occurred on 17-18 feb, 2003.

we've still got a few sprinkles and random very light showers going on early this evening, but all afternoon, skies have been trying to clear a bit just to our west and south.  in the near term, our weather news is relatively good... we should have a break in the action for 48 hours or so... with temps warming up a few degrees, and sunshine making a return.  but the upper-level pattern remains very active, and that means there is another disturbance on the way for the middle of the coming week.  clouds will thicken and rain chances will be on the increase once again, which will stall any hope for a seasonal march warm-up...

SATURDAY NIGHT: a stray shower possible yet this evening... then clearing skies.  cold!
