a not-so-nice weekend... (am.12.feb.11)>

we have a mild 50F (10C) early this morning... under mostly cloudy skies.  the satellite photos are showing a huge area of mid- and high-level clouds across an extensive area from afghanistan to himachal pradesh and kashmir.  most of the rain and snow associated with this system is still hanging well to our west, but there have been some light rain and snow showers popping up already, further up in the dhauladars.

the overall scenario has changed very little since last night... we are in for a long period of unsettled weather, which will last all the way into the middle of next week.  clouds will continue to thicken, we'll have occasionally gusty winds, shower and thundershower chances will increase, and temperatures will eventually drop off significantly.  the most likely time for significant rainfall is on sunday through tuesday.  heavy snow is a definite bet for areas above 2500m (8200ft), but the snow line will drop down to around 2000m (6500ft) by late monday and tuesday.
