stubborn showers... (pm.18.apr.11)>

thundershowers are in progress early this evening... with 0.26" (7mm) of new rainfall in the past hour or so.  that now brings the total rainfall since just after midnight on sunday morning up to 4.13" (10.5cm), which is basically unheard of during a 48 hour period during the month of april.  today's high temp was 68F (20C), thanks to some nice periods of sunshine, although the evening rain has now brought the chill back.

the atmosphere is in a weird mood... the upper-level storm system responsible for all this rainy/stormy weather is still centered just slightly to our west... along the southwest border of kashmir.  the counter-clockwise circulation around this system is still drawing up moisture from the south.  it looks like it will be drifting ever-so-slowly to the east during the next couple of days, so i am starting to get the impression that our thundershower chances will linger.  although rainfall amounts will dramatically diminish, keeping isolated to scattered mainly afternoon showers (with thunder) in the forecast for another day or two seems wise.

later in the week, a more seasonal ridge of high pressure is expected to gain strength in all levels of the atmosphere... and that means warmer temps, a greater percentage of sunshine, and less risk of rain.
