flirting with showers... (am.8.jun.11)>

it's mostly cloudy at dawn this morning, with a temp of 69.6F (20.9C).  i've had no measurable rainfall since about 9:30pm... but there was more thunder between 3:00 and 4:00am, thanks to an area of tenacious thundershowers which survived almost all night in central himachal.  rainfall here last night: 0.20" (5mm).

an area of low pressure in the upper atmosphere has developed over central tibet... and our persistent area of high pressure aloft remains centered over afghanistan.  we are right in between, and have been the beneficiaries of these mountain thundershowers which have actually been moving from the northeast to the southwest... rather unusual.  the flow in the upper atmosphere will continue to drive any development over the mountains right down into our neighborhood... so we'll keep scattered mainly afternoon and evening thundershowers in the forecast for another couple of days.  after that, it appears that the big area of high pressure to our west will regain control, lowering shower chances, and boosting tempertatures once again.

there are indications we could see a surge of humidity coming in over the weekend, to go along with the summer warmth.  the atmosphere is gradually preparing for the monsoon's arrival in just a few weeks!  remember to check the MONSOON WATCH tab above, if you're interested in the latest info regarding the northward advance of monsoon 2011.
