a leap forward... (pm.8.oct.11)>

scattered thunderstorms are pounding many of the mountain ranges from kashmir through himachal into uttarakhand this evening, but once again, we've been spared.  it has been a very nice day, compared to most during this post-monsoon period... sunshine for several hours contributed to a high temp of 71.6F (22.0C), and the humidity reading held in the 50-60% range... a massive leap forward.

our current upper-level disturbance is centered over southern kashmir, but is rather weak, and will weaken further overnight.  still, it is not out of the question that we could get a thunderstorm moving through here tonight, with another chance of an isolated thundershower tomorrow.  but really, the bigger news is the DRIER AIR that has been filtering in during the past 24 hours.  it turns out that the computer models have been correct for a change... they have been pointing to this all week.  humidity should remain much lower as we head into next week... so maybe, just maybe, our battle with the thick clouds and fog has finally come to an end for this year.

despite the reduction in moisture/humidity, there is no significantly cooler air flowing in... so we will continue to see temperatures that are actually quite a bit milder than they should be by the second week of october.  with the increased percentage of sunshine, it will remain very pleasant...
