the long-awaited gift... (pm.9.oct.11)>

a classic october himalayan evening is in progress... with mostly clear skies and comfortably mild temperatures.  apart from a build-up of clouds over the mountains from late morning into the late afternoon, there has been plenty of sunshine today.  in fact, a greater percentage of sun than we've seen in one day since the middle of june.  our high temp today was 73.6F (23.1C) -- the warmest since the 23rd of september, while the relative humidity held in the 50-55% range for most of the day.

the long-termers and locals i've talked to all agree... this year's post-monsoon period has been one of the most unusual in memory.  the deep, genuine monsoon moisture pulled out of here nearly right on schedule, late on the 16th of september.  but the stubborness of the lingering low-level moisture this year was very abnormal.  we've been teased with several potential turns to nice autumn weather, but each time, ended up disappointed.  this time it seems that our drier autumnal airmass has indeed taken control... as evidenced by the dramatic changes we've experienced during the past 48 hours or so.

despite the departure of the humidity and moisture, temperatures remain well above normal for the second week of october, so it it appears that we'll be able to enjoy the best of both worlds during the coming days...
