first 80F of 2012... (pm.20.apr.12)>

A partly cloudy evening is in progress, at the end of a day which has tipped in favor of sunshine.  I recorded a high temperature of 80.4F (26.9C) during the mid-afternoon... the first 80F temp of the season, and the warmest of 2012!  There has been no rainfall thus far today.

There is a very impressive circulation evident on satellite photos this evening, due west of us right along the Afghanistan/Pakistan border.  This is the weather system that is going to be dominating our weekend as it continues to move eastward, squashing the serene high pressure ridge we've enjoyed during the past 2-3 days.  There is still a lot of disagreement among the computer model guidance with regard to timing, intensity and amount of rainfall... but I would have to say our best chance of a couple of rounds of rain and thunderstorms lies between tonight and Sunday afternoon.  Warm and more moist air continues to be pulled up from the south in advance of this system, and as dynamic energy increases during the next 48 hours, we should be prepared for sudden and potentially dramatic changes.

The nature of the air mass associated with this approaching storm system differs from the one we were dealing with a week ago, so although temperatures will cool down a bit, we shouldn't fall much below normal for this time of year.  By the middle of next week we should have fully rebounded... but with the typical risk of afternoon thundershowers remaining...
