spring sampler... (pm.17.apr.12)>

A thundershower is in progress at the time of this writing.  It began around 5:50pm, and should be fizzling out by dark.  There has been a pretty heavy downpour here in town... and I'll post a rainfall total later this evening.  Otherwise, we've seen a lot of variety today... it was cloudy and cool until the late morning, but then we had a lot of sunshine for most of the remainder of the day (until early this evening).  My high temp of 72.0F (22.2C) was the warmest since last Monday before our wet and cool spell began.

**update @ 7:35pm...  a little surprised to find only 0.18" (5mm) in the rain gauge.  seemed to me there was more than that.**

Our evening thundershower is one of a few visible on satellite photos along the leading edge of the Himalayan chains... from western Kashmir into Himachal.  These have developed in response to strong surface heating interacting with lingering colder air in the upper-atmosphere.  Classic afternoon "micro-climate" instability.  As gradually warmer air surges into the area during the next three days, we'll continue to run the risk of dealing with an isolated PM/early night-time thundershower, so factor that into your plans.

Otherwise, expect some nice periods of April sunshine, with temperatures actually rebounding to slightly ABOVE normal during the latter part of the week.  Still keeping an eye on an approaching weather system for increasing thunderstorm chances over the weekend, but right now it appears it will be losing steam as it begins to move into northern India on Saturday...
