Things are looking much brighter and better early this morning. We have mostly clear skies at sunrise, and I've recorded no additional rainfall overnight. My total here on Tushita Road just below the Mountaineering Center since very early Tuesday morning is 1.43" (3.6cm) -- and I'm showing a cool low temp of 53.6F (12.0C) to start the day.
The main batch of thunderstorm activity last evening and overnight remained just to our south... there was a lot of lightning in the southern sky all evening. Other scattered thundershowers to our northwest over Kashmir and northern Pakistan died out before midnight. So... we have been able to catch a break, as this dynamic upper-level storm system weakens and dies away. Unfortunately, we're not entirely out of the woods yet. As the sun gets working on the lower layers of the atmosphere, instability will be on the increase again, and that could lead to the development of more showers and thunder. In fact, that same scenario should repeat itself during the next few days... so just be ready to sprint for shelter if/when the sky suddenly starts looking ugly.
We're now a few degrees BELOW normal for the season, but with periods of sun everyday and gradual warming in the middle and upper-levels, it looks like we'll be back in the "normal" range fairly soon -- perhaps as early as Monday or Tuesday of next week.
