afternoon excitement... (pm.05.jun.12)>

The sun has popped out again, and things are settling down after a very active few hours late this afternoon.  Thundershowers began developing just after 3:00pm, and have brought occasional rain and very strong and gusty winds to the area.  There was also a magnificent double rainbow in the eastern sky just before 6:00pm.  Here on Tushita Road below the Mountaineering Center I received 0.19" (5mm) of rain... the most I've recorded in a single day in exactly one month ( since the 5th of May).  My high temp reached 85.1F (29.5C) before the thundershowers moved in.

The cooler air which has been gradually seeping in in the upper-levels of the atmosphere continues to do battle with the warmer air at the surface.  This afternoon, that instability finally reached the threshold necessary to get some serious thundershowers going... not only here, but across much of northern Pakistan into north India.  A broad but relatively weak upper-level disturbance will remain over northwest India for the next few days, providing us with daily opportunities for a round or two of showers and thunderstorms... mainly during the afternoon and evening hours.  By the weekend, some stability may return, diminishing rain chances.

After our recent heatwave, we've finally cooled down closer to "normal" for early June.  Sunny periods will keep us seasonably warm for the remainder of the week, but thanks to random thundershowers, we'll get some natural A/C breaks as well...
