a sunny start... (am.26.jun.12)>

We have mostly clear skies as the sun begins to peek over the mountains early on this Tuesday morning.  Temperatures are rather pleasant -- I recorded an overnight low of 69.6F (20.9C) -- and there has been no rainfall since the few sprinkles and a brief light shower early yesterday afternoon.

I was expecting some thundershower action to develop last evening or overnight, but things have remained fairly quiet across most of northern India.  A moderate amount of moisture remains in the air, thanks to pre-monsoon tropical conditions which are hovering in pockets along the front ranges of the mountains.  There is still a good chance that scattered showers and thundershowers will develop between today and Wednesday evening, so be aware that rapid, sudden changes could occur, and be prepared.  If the showers do get going, locally heavy downpours will be possible once again.

By Thursday, computer models and other data are pointing to a warming and drying trend across the western Himalayan region.  It's pretty crazy to see that kind of pattern as we approach the 1st of July... but this year's monsoon advance into the northwest one-third of India remains feeble at best.
