humidity surging... (pm.01.jul.12)>

We have a combination of sun, haze and clouds across the area on this Sunday evening.  I recorded a high temp of 88.7F (31.5C), which is close to 10F/5C warmer than normal for the first day of July, and the warmest in my books since the 21st of June.  Humidity has been in the 50-60% range for most of the day, which has contributed to the discomfort.

There are all kinds of interesting things evolving across northern India, and it will only get more interesting during the coming week.  We have had a pathetic pre-monsoon season, limited to a few days of heavy downpours last weekend into Wednesday of this past week.  Since then, high pressure has reclaimed control  of the weather pattern, causing a relatively stable atmosphere and temperatures which have been way above normal for this time of year.  Computer models are forecasting another two or three days of quiet, warm and dry weather -- but satellite views during the past 12 hours or so are telling a different story.  They are showing a rapid advance of deep tropical moisture, with thundershowers already erupting just southeast of us  from western Nepal and Uttarakhand into southern Himachal Pradesh.  That's why the next 24 hours or so bears very close watching...

At any rate, surging monsoon conditions will be knocking on our door over the course of the next few days, bringing us an increase in humidity, cloudiness, rain and thunder -- along with a significant drop in temperatures by the end of the week.  Our long wait this year may be coming to an end -- for better or for worse, depending on your personal perspective.!
