regrouping... (pm.05.jul.12)>

**THE INDIA METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT HAS DECLARED THE OFFICIAL ARRIVAL OF THE 2012 MONSOON SEASON FOR THE DHARAMSALA AREA... CHECK THE MONSOON WATCH TAB ABOVE FOR DETAILS AND OTHER LINKS!**

Sunshine broke out shortly after 3:00pm today, after clouds, fog and occasional thundershowers dominated the morning into the early afternoon hours.  This evening, we have a mix of hazy sun and a few patchy clouds, but humidity remains high -- in the 80-85% range.  I recorded just 0.20" (5mm) of rain since this morning's report, which brings our total rainfall since late Tuesday morning up to 5.02" (12.8cm).  Thanks to the sun late this afternoon, the high temp in the upper part of town reached 75.6F (24.2C) -- a bit warmer than expected.

We're currently experiencing some temporary stability, as the atmosphere regroups after being thoroughly worked over during the past 48-60 hours or so.  Huge amounts of tropical moisture remain in the lower levels of our air mass, but a northwesterly flow aloft has brought some drying to the higher levels.  It shouldn't take long for the instability to increase once again, and the result will be the development of more moderate to heavy rain showers as we head into the weekend.  The Dalai Lama's 77th birthday celebrations will be held at Tsuglakhang for much of the day tomorrow, and it looks like chances of occasional rain will be quite high -- but of course a 6th of July celebration in McLeod Ganj always includes a good chance of rain.

It will be fairly easy to double our recent 5" (12.8cm) of rain during the coming few days, so don't let this afternoon's sunshine lull you into complacency!  As far as temperatures go... they will fluctuate in a narrow range between night and day, due to the high humidity... but should average out pretty close to normal during the coming week or so.
