that's more like it... (pm.18.jul.12)>

Some of the thickest fog of this young monsoon season has been upon us this evening, at the end of a very active day of weather.  The sunshine didn't hang on for long this morning, as humidity flirting between 90 and 100% fueled cloud development, leading to the most impressive downpours we've seen since Saturday, the 7th of July. As of 5:00pm, I measured 1.30" (3.3cm) of rain -- but there has been more since then, so I'll be updating that amount later this evening.  We did manage to pull off a high temp of 75.6F (24.2C) before 12:45pm, when the rain and thunder started.

Today's turn of events is evidence that atmospheric changes are indeed underway.  This is the tip of the iceberg of what we can probably expect during the coming several days.  Deeper, richer, juicier tropical moisture is gradually being pulled back to the northwest, and according to the latest data, should be enveloping northern India as the weekend arrives.  A low pressure circulation now developing in the northern Bay of Bengal will drift westward into central India by Sunday -- this will provide us with a pretty much unhindered moist, southeasterly flow.  Simultaneously, the persistent drier westerly flow in the upper-levels will be squelched.  All of this translates into a return to more typical monsoon conditions into at least early next week.

I noticed the first patches of mildew forming on my walls near the ceiling this morning which, for some reason, is always a shocking moment for me -- year after year!  Despite so much sun and so little fog during the past week to ten days, the humidity has definitely remained high enough to do the trick...
