moderating temps... (pm.08.jan.13)>

*Update @ 8:14pm...  43.3F (6.3C) at this hour, which is the warmest temp at this time of the evening I've seen during the past several days.  Courtesy of increasing clouds and milder air flowing in at the 1800-2500m level.

Tuesday's stats:

Early morning low temp: 37.6F (3.1C)
Afternoon high temp: 49.1F (9.5C)
Rainfall: none

Today was the fourth day in a row I have recorded a high temp below 50F (10C), and also the fourth in a row of night-time/early morning low temps dipping into the 30s(F) -- continuing our longest sustained cold-streak of the season.  It is partly cloudy just after sunset on this Tuesday evening, after a day of sunshine yielding to occasional high clouds during the afternoon.

The primary cause of the increase in clouds is some warming occurring in the mid- and upper-levels of the atmosphere, in combination with a very weak disturbance approaching from the west.  There's very little chance of any rain or snow out of this, but periods of clouds are more likely than in recent days past.  We'll have to wait for very late Friday and Saturday for a potentially stronger weather system which could bring some scattered rain and snow showers to parts of Himachal Pradesh.  As we've talked about the last couple of days, this system will be the remnants of a strong winter storm currently over Turkey and the Middle East, which is still expected to lose nearly all of its spunk and mojo by the time it reaches Afghanistan and Pakistan.  Something for us to watch, but right now it doesn't look very impressive as far as we're concerned.

We should be enjoying a rather healthy moderation in temperatures for the remainder of this week, and as long as we can keep several of hours of sunshine each day, we should be rising a few degrees above normal by Friday.
