dry streak ending... (pm.02.feb.13)>

Saturday's stats:

Early morning low temp: 45.1F (7.3C)
Afternoon high temp: 57.0F (13.9C)
Rainfall: trace

A fairly pleasant early February evening is in progress, with partly cloudy skies and unseasonably mild temperatures.  There were a lot of clouds around today, but also some decent sunny breaks during the afternoon hours, allowing my high temp in the upper part of town to reach its warmest of 2013 (by just a fraction of a degree).  There were a couple of showers up in the mountains, with even a few light sprinkles here in town during the late afternoon.

We're probably still at least 24 hours away from our first significant rain shower action, as we continue to watch a developing storm system off to our west.  This thing is looking more impressive with each successive run of the computer model data, and stands a very good chance of delivering more rainfall between Sunday night and Thursday morning than we would normally receive during the entire month of February.  Around 15cm (6") of liquid-equivalent precipitation still looks like a possibility in our immediate area, thanks to a direct fetch of tropical moisture expected to be pulled north-northeastward from the Arabian Sea and slammed into the leading edge of the mountains.

Currently it looks like Tuesday should be the wettest day, but that could change if the speed and intensity of this storm system were to shift a bit.  Very heavy snowfall -- on the order of 3-5 feet -- will be likely above 2300m/7500ft or so, but at this point it still appears that we'll remain too warm for significant snowfall here in McLeod until perhaps very late Wednesday into Thursday morning.

This is going to be another interesting and entertaining storm to watch... so keep tabs here on the blog for the very latest information and updates.
