crazy monday ending... (pm.07.apr.14)>

Monday's stats:

Low temp: 46.0F (7.8C) -- at 4:50pm
High temp: 62.4F (16.9C) -- at 9:45am
Rainfall: 0.69" (1.8cm) -- updated @ 8:00pm

A clearing trend has been underway during the past hour or so, with some nice sunshine happening right before dusk sets in.  It's been a very active day, with three distinct periods of showers and thunderstorms, the heaviest two of which occurred during the early afternoon and again during the late afternoon.  There was also some small hail mixed in with the rain, along with some pretty wicked thunder and lightning at times.  The coldest temperatures of the day occurred during those rainy periods -- while the high temp was registered during the mid-morning when we had about an hour and a half of nearly full sunshine.

The upper-level low pressure disturbance/circulation responsible for all of this is now located over southwestern Kashmir -- not far northwest of us -- and will be moving northeastward and out of the picture during the next 6-12 hours or so.  There has been a pretty impressive pool of cold air aloft in association with this system, and some of that colder air got delivered down to the surface today, thanks to the intense thunderstorm activity.  Our atmosphere will be stabilizing somewhat during the next couple of days, but the concern will be lingering colder air in the upper-levels which could lead to some PM instability over the mountains.  Keep in mind the risk of an afternoon shower or thundershower, hopefully remaining up-mountain from us.  Otherwise it looks like we'll have several days of decent sunshine ahead.

Temperatures... what can I say about temperatures?  We've been scratching and clawing our way along this spring season, and although we've had a handful of pleasantly mild days, it has been consistently cooler than normal -- even on the warmest days.  It looks like the same story the rest of this week.  With sunshine, it'll be quite pleasant, but temps will still be running several degrees cooler than normal for the first half of April.
