It's a strange-looking morning. We have sun, clouds, haze, and some thunder all occurring simultaneously at sunrise. You may have been awakened by some very noisy thunder just before 2:00am -- our atmosphere never really stabilized overnight as it has recently. Despite all the noise, I had no additional measurable rainfall in my gauge since last report, so we'll call it a trace overnight, since I did hear a couple of random raindrops. The low temp here in the upper part of town was 60.3F (15.7C), and this morning's humidity reading is 59%.
We remain locked into a rather unstable situation, as warm and moisture-laden air near the surface interacts with some pockets of colder air drifting through in the upper levels. The atmosphere is pretty stagnant, actually, so there is really no major feature on the way that will bring along a definitive change in the pattern -- all the way into the weekend and beyond. Computer models are hinting at some slight stabilization, and thus a decrease in daily shower/thunder development by Thursday or Friday, but I am not very confident about that at this point. I've measured just 0.40" (1cm) of rain since last Thursday when we started getting these daily episodes of thundershowers roaming the landscape, so we're really not dealing with very major amounts of rain -- at least not up to now.
Temperatures will continue to fluctuate according to periods of sun and periods of clouds and scattered showers, but will generally remain pleasantly warm for the season. We could even see a surge back toward 80F by the end of the week.
