It's mostly cloudy out there this evening, though there are some breaks in the overcast visible to the southeast. What a day! We had a few hours of nice weather this morning, with partly sunny skies and pleasantly mild temperatures, but then the bottom kind of fell out between 11:00am and noon, as thundershowers developed overhead and our temps plunged. That low temperature you see on the stats (above) occurred between noon and 1:00pm, and was the coolest I've recorded since way back on the 17th of April! The most significant rainfall occurred right around the noon hour, but we had occasional drizzle and light showers all the way until nearly 5pm.
Our attention has been focused on an upper-level low pressure system for the last few days, and right now it is centered right over Punjab. There's only a moderate amount of moisture entrained into it, but with unseasonably chilly air aloft overriding warmer air at the surface, we're getting an impressive amount of instability across much of northern India. It looks like it's going to take another 36 to 48 hours before this system loses its grip on us -- as it weakens and shifts off to the northeast -- so a good chance of a few periods of showers/thunder will remain in the forecast through tomorrow (Wed), with lesser chances on Thursday. Temperatures will rebound in the absence of thundershowers, but will remain significantly cooler than normal for early June.
By Friday, high pressure will try to build back in from the southwest, and all of the models are forecasting a major warming trend over the weekend into early next week. This is not at all the start of the monsoon -- there is still plenty of summertime weather ahead of us.
